  • 1. Offensive Jab, Offensive Jab, Punch - head, Switch Slash Round Kick, Back Hook, Front Upper Cut
  • 2. Back Hook - body, Front Upper Cut, Offensive Punch - head, Back Knee (set down in front), Front Hand Grab, Rear Elbow - head

Pad Strikes

The pad strikes for Fifth Degree and higher are not from a set curriculum. The format of the pad strikes is the same: two pad holders where one has two arm targets/muay thai pads and the other has a body shield. You must create three pad strike combinations.

The rotation and orientation of the pad holders is identical to 4th degree. The pad holder with the two arm target pads will always be in front of the striker. The body shield holder will move around the striker - one position for each combo. For example, if you're on your left side fighting stance, the three positions for the body shield holder would be to your right, behind you, and to your left in that order.

Regarding the actual combinations themselves, they must make sense. Talk to your instructor(s) about what makes sense for you. Personally, I would lean towards realistic rather than what looks cool.

Expectations

  • Arrive 5 minutes early in full uniform and belt; instructors can help with tying.
  • Turn in an attendance card each class; we track attendance and progress with these cards.
  • Bring full sparring gear to every class. Wear gear at line-up for sparring; for form classes, bring the bag and leave it in the lobby/locker room.
  • Bring a bo staff, kamas, and bokken to every form/curriculum class. Do not leave them at the school.
  • Speak with Mr. or Mrs. Albertson to schedule times to start learning how to teach as well as teach.

Equipment & Safety

Wear a National Karate uniform (summer option: NK T-shirt tucked into pants with belt). Bring sparring gear to every class and your bo staff, kamas, and bokken to every form/curriculum class.

Monthly Exams

Important: Black belts do not test for their next degree at monthly exams. Instead, they test for segments at monthly exams. Each segment must be earned with a different form. Once a student has earned the designed amount of segments, they may speak to Mr. or Mrs. Albertson to see if they can start screening.
